A gauge-invariant and current-continuous microscopic ac quantum transport theory
There had been consensus on what the accurate ac quantum transport theory was
until some recent works challenged the conventional wisdom. Basing on the
non-equilibrium Green's function formalism for time-dependent quantum
transport, we derive an expression for the dynamic admittance that satisfies
gauge invariance and current continuity, and clarify the key concept in the
field. The validity of our now formalism is verified by first-principles
calculation of the transient current through a carbon-nanotube-based device
under the time-dependent bias voltage. Moreover, the previously well-accepted
expression for dynamic admittance is recovered only when the device is a
perfect conductor at a specific potential
Stacking-induced magnetic frustration and spiral spin liquid
Like the twisting control in magic angle twisted bilayer graphenes, the
stacking control is another mechanical approach to manipulate the fundamental
properties of solids, especially the van der Waals materials. We explore the
stacking-induced magnetic frustration and the spiral spin liquid on a
multilayer triangular lattice antiferromagnet where the system is built from
the ABC stacking with competing intralayer and interlayers couplings. By
combining the nematic bond theory and the self-consistent Gaussian
approximation, we establish the phase diagram for this ABC-stacked multilayer
magnet. It is shown that, the system supports a wide regime of spiral spin
liquid with multiple degenerate spiral lines in the reciprocal space,
separating the low-temperature spiral order and the high-temperature
featureless paramagnet. The transition to the spiral order from the spiral spin
liquid regime is first order. We further show that the spiral-spin-liquid
behavior persists even with small perturbations such as further neighbor
intralayer exchanges. The connection to the ABC-stacked magnets, the effects of
Ising or planar spin anisotropy, and the outlook on the stacking-engineered
quantum magnets are discussed.Comment: main text: 7 pages + 4 figures; supplemental materials: 15 pages + 5

NaturalConv: A Chinese Dialogue Dataset Towards Multi-turn Topic-driven Conversation
In this paper, we propose a Chinese multi-turn topic-driven conversation
dataset, NaturalConv, which allows the participants to chat anything they want
as long as any element from the topic is mentioned and the topic shift is
smooth. Our corpus contains 19.9K conversations from six domains, and 400K
utterances with an average turn number of 20.1. These conversations contain
in-depth discussions on related topics or widely natural transition between
multiple topics. We believe either way is normal for human conversation. To
facilitate the research on this corpus, we provide results of several benchmark
models. Comparative results show that for this dataset, our current models are
not able to provide significant improvement by introducing background
knowledge/topic. Therefore, the proposed dataset should be a good benchmark for
further research to evaluate the validity and naturalness of multi-turn
conversation systems. Our dataset is available at

GO Hessian for Expectation-Based Objectives
An unbiased low-variance gradient estimator, termed GO gradient, was proposed
recently for expectation-based objectives
,
where the random variable (RV) may be drawn from a stochastic
computation graph with continuous (non-reparameterizable) internal nodes and
continuous/discrete leaves. Upgrading the GO gradient, we present for
an unbiased low-variance Hessian estimator, named GO
Hessian. Considering practical implementation, we reveal that GO Hessian is
easy-to-use with auto-differentiation and Hessian-vector products, enabling
efficient cheap exploitation of curvature information over stochastic
computation graphs. As representative examples, we present the GO Hessian for
non-reparameterizable gamma and negative binomial RVs/nodes. Based on the GO
Hessian, we design a new second-order method for
, with rigorous experiments conducted to verify its
effectiveness and efficiency

Acupuncture treatment for ischaemic stroke in young adults: protocol for a randomised, sham-controlled clinical trial
INTRODUCTION: Stroke in young adults is not uncommon. Although the overall incidence of stroke has been recently declining, the incidence of stroke in young adults is increasing. Traditional vascular risk factors are the main cause of young ischaemic stroke. Acupuncture has been shown to benefit stroke rehabilitation and ameliorate the risk factors for stroke. The aims of this study were to determine whether acupuncture treatment will be effective in improving the activities of daily living (ADL), motor function and quality of life (QOL) in patients of young ischaemic stroke, and in preventing stroke recurrence by controlling blood pressure, lipids and body weight.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: In this randomised, sham-controlled, participant-blinded and assessor-blinded clinical trial, 120 patients between 18 and 45 years of age with a recent (within 1 month) ischaemic stroke will be randomised for an 8-week acupuncture or sham acupuncture treatment. The primary outcome will be the Barthel Index for ADL. The secondary outcomes will include the Fugl-Meyer Assessment for motor function; the World Health Organization Quality of Life BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) for QOL; and risk factors that are measured by ambulatory blood pressure, the fasting serum lipid, body mass index and waist circumference. Incidence of adverse events and long-term mortality and recurrence rate during a 10-year and 30-year follow-up will also be investigated.
ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: Ethics approval was obtained from the Ethics Committee of The Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University. Protocol V.3 was approved in June 2013. The results will be disseminated in a peer-reviewed journal and presented at international congresses. The results will also be disseminated to patients by telephone during follow-up calls enquiring on the patient's post-study health status.
